The 2025 African American history calendar features individuals who were born in Maury County or decided to make Maury County home and worked to build communities to raise their families with businesses, benevolent societies, churches, and schools; and join in the fight for civil rights from the 1860s to the 1960s. You will note that the desire to build communities was multi-generational members of the next generation continued the effort to build African American communities, such as the John Smith Gilmore, and Edmund Kelly families and their efforts extended beyond the boundaries of their immediate neighborhood. The individuals featured in this calendar were selected because of their contributions or role in an event that had an impact on this county, state, or country.
